Cleaning the Toilet bowl and pan to remove limescale and prevent toilet problems
There are various commercial products available that are specially designed to get rid of limescale. Bleach-based products from Domestos, for example, are ideal when you’re looking at how to clean a stained toilet. As always, remember to follow the instructions on the label and avoid contact with the skin.
Vinegar is a great home remedy to get rid of toilet bowl stains such as limescale. It’s an acidic solution, which can penetrate the stain and lift it off the surface. You don’t even have to mix vinegar with water to prepare a cleaning solution: pure vinegar is ready to use and, chances are, you’ve already got some in your kitchen.
Pour some vinegar into the bowl, leaving it there for a few hours before you start the cleaning process. Then scrub the stain with more vinegar, and flush the toilet to rinse. Repeat the process until you can’t spot the stain anymore and your toilet bowl is shining again.
How to Clean a Stained Toilet with More Stubborn Marks
Sometimes, neither vinegar nor commercial cleaners do the job as well as you would like. In this case, it might be time to opt for sandpaper to remove the limescale residue, and carefully scrub the stain away. But be aware that too much pressure could damage the toilet bowl’s porcelain, so don’t be too enthusiastic.
Toilets are deceivingly hard to repair, they take a lot of precise connections that if not connected correctly will leak onto the floor. JAS Plumbing and Heating do not recommend repairing parts even for well experienced DIY enthusiasts.
